What to Look for When Purchasing
Iris flowers are normally harvested at the "pencil stage", when a line of color projects out of the sheathing leaves. When buying iris, look for flowers still in the bud stage which are just starting to show color. Be sure the tips of the flower are not curled or dried up or the bloom won’t open.
Foam Info
Short vase life. Can be prone to leaf yellowing in foam. Make sure foam is kept well hydrated.
Design Tips
Iris adds color, style and beauty to any arrangement, but be sure to leave plenty of room to allow the ever-emerging Iris to open fully. If you are in a hurry, Iris blooms can be opened manually by peeling back the sheath about half way down which makes the flower open. For an interesting design, use odd numbers of Iris. Arrange your Iris prior to positioning the next type of flower to ensure an even display. In any arrangement, associate with other flowers that have similar vase life characteristics.
Ethylene Sensitivity
Low
Pest & Disease Information
Susceptible to Botrytis.
Troubleshooting
Irises can have abnormal flower opening and premature petal discoloration. For longest life, place your iris in a cool place, away from draughts, radiators or direct sunlight. The warmer the room, the shorter the vase life. Use FloraLife® Bulb 100 to maintain foliage quality.
