Design Tips
The silvery-gray foliage can be used as a filler in fresh arrangements, dried in dry arrangements, or used in potpourri. Eucalyptus has the added benefit of a wonderful, clean fragrance. The foliage tones, from grey-blue to grey-green, are flattering to most flowers. Eucalyptus is extremely long lasting. Treat with a finishing spray to keep eucalyptus fresh and hydrated. Removing leaves from Eucalyptus will produce a sticky residue. This can be removed from your hands by using a soap that contains lanolin. You may want to use gloves when working with Eucalyptus.
Ethylene Sensitivity
Produces ethylene when under water stress, but ethylene is not a concern under non-stress conditions.
Pest & Disease Information
Eucalyptus is very resilient to diseases post-harvest.
Troubleshooting
Dehydration, leave yellowing, weak tops. Eucalyptus should never be exposed to freezing temperatures. Before using it in floral arrangements, Eucalyptus stems should be re-cut and put in fresh lukewarm water with floral food. If the tips are very tender and soft, allow it to draw water up to the tips. Eucalyptus is not sensitive to ethylene, but if the foliage is poorly handled, is warm, and water-stressed, it can produce concentrations of ethylene that could damage ethylene-sensitive flowers.
