Introduction:

FloraLife® Finishing Touch Spray is designed as a final step for floral arrangements to enhance hydration, freshness and overall longevity. In this research update, we compile data from recent experiments on the effect of FloraLife® Finishing Touch on selected cut flowers from Colombia to assess its impact on vase life. The goal is to determine how this treatment can improve overall quality and customer satisfaction.

Method:

Experimental data included in this report were obtained from several recent studies using the same standard methodology. Flowers were sourced from a farm in Colombia and shipped to the FloraLife laboratory in South Carolina, USA. Stems were re-cut to about 40 cm and foliage below the solution level was removed. Flowers were placed in vases containing either FloraLife Crystal Clear® or FloraLife® Express 300 liquid flower food. Each experiment used only one of the two flower food solutions. Half of the flowers were sprayed with a fine, even mist of FloraLife® Finishing Touch from a distance of 15 cm, while the remaining stems served as untreated controls. The vases were placed on the tables in the vase life observation room at 68-70 ℉ with a 12-hour light and 12-hour dark cycle. The flowers were observed daily for vase life changes.

Results:

The following table presents a compilation of vase life data from recent experiments conducted at the FloraLife postharvest laboratory in South Carolina, USA.

Table. Vase life (in days) of tested Colombian cut flower varieties

Conclusion:

FloraLife® Finishing Touch increased the average vase life from 15.1 to 16.5 days, showing consistent improvement across all Colombian cut flower varieties. These results confirm that FloraLife® Finishing Touch can extend the postharvest life of cut flowers.
