Step-by-Step Soaking Instructions
- Prepare Water
Fill a clean container (sink or bucket or large open container) with cool or room-temperature water and mix in FloraLife® Flower Food according to label instructions. - Place Foam
Gently set the dry foam block (logo side up) onto the water's surface. - Let it Sink
Do not push the foam down. Allow it to absorb water and sink on its own. - Wait for Saturation
Wait until the foam is fully saturated (sinks completely and stops bubbling), which typically takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on the foam type and density. - Handle Gently
Carefully lift the saturated foam, supporting the bottom to prevent it from cracking. - Trim (Optional
If needed, trim the soaked foam to size; cutting it before soaking prevents crumbling.
Key Tips
Avoid Dry Spots: Forcing the foam underwater traps air, creating dry pockets that won't hydrate flowers.
Soak Longer for Large Designs: For larger arrangements or wreaths, soak foam for several hours or overnight for maximum hydration, keeping it in water.
Don't Re-soak Dry Foam: Once wet foam dries out, it cannot be re-wetted effectively.
Cut Stems Correctly: Cut flower stems at a sharp angle with a sharp knife for better water absorption and a secure fit in the foam.
Keep it Moist: Add more FloraLife® Flower Food solution to the foam daily or as needed to keep it saturated as flowers constantly hydrate.
The Importance of Flower Food
Flower food is exactly what it sounds like: food for flowers, feeding them with nutrients they need but are no longer getting since they were harvested.
Nutrition: FloraLife® Flower Food contains sugars that act as an energy source, helping flowers maintain color and development.
Hydration: An acidifier in the food lowers the water's pH, allowing it to travel up the stems more effectively, helping with water and nutrient absorption.
Prevents Blockage: The solution prevents stem clogging that could hinder water intake.
Optimizes Vase Life: Research shows that using FloraLife® Flower Food in foam significantly increases flower life compared to plain water.
